Product description

The Rinnai HydraHeat® is designed primarily for outdoor installations. It may be possible to install internally if the proposed location is not an occupied space as defined by AS/NZS 5149, consult a qualified installer prior to installation.

Scope of use

Primarily designed for residential applications.

Not suitable as a spa or swimming pool heater.
Not suitable for hydronic or for in-series installation in ring main systems*.

Hard and acidic water will need to be treated to use this product, refer water quality parameters in the support material (downloads).

Hot water heat pumps, sometimes called hybrid heat pumps or heat pump water heaters, are designed to efficiently heat water for domestic and commercial use. They operate on the same principle as air source heat pumps, which extract heat from the surrounding air. This warms the water in the cylinder which is then supplied into your home or commercial space.

While hot water heat pumps offer long-term savings, the initial investment can be higher compared to traditional water heaters. It can cost upwards of $4,000 for the unit alone, and then more for proper installation from an experienced technician. This ensures that the heat pump is the correct size, placed correctly, and integrated with the existing plumbing.

Hot water heat pumps are regarded as the most environmentally friendly hot water solution in the market. They use heat in the air, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. This makes them a viable choice for environmentally conscious individuals and organizations striving to minimize their carbon footprint.

Hot water heat pumps are significantly more energy-efficient than traditional electric or gas water heaters. They use renewable heat sources like air, which require less electricity to heat water. This leads to reduced energy consumption and lower bills.

Hot water heat pump systems should be serviced every two years. Installation, servicing, repair, and removal shall be carried out only by authorised personnel. They require minimal maintenance, primarily involving occasional checks and cleanings. This ease of maintenance adds to their appeal for both homeowners and businesses.

The space requirements for installing a hot water heat pump are a 400mm clearance on either side of the hot water heat pump, a 500mm clearance above the hot water heat pump and a 10mm clearance from the wall it is being installed against.

Unfortunately this is not possible, due to the specially designed technology that links the HydraHeat® hot water cylinder component to the heat pump head unit.
